Letters from Our Military Heros
Dear Sacred Heart Parish-

My name is Ryan C Schatz. I am a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. A couple months ago I was in Helmand Province Afghanistan when I fell extremely ill when my kidneys failed to work properly.

I had to be rushed to Bagram British Hospital for evaluation. There I was kept on medication to keep the pain under control. I was later to be transported to Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan. Before I was put on a C130 Medical plane I began to get the chills and was shaking non-stop. I was then given a quilt with the Passionate Stichers of Sacred Heart Parish embroidered on it.

After Bagram AFB I was transferred to Quatar and on to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. I stayed in DC for a week and was sent back to my place of duty, in Hawaii, where I was admitted to Tripler Army Hospital.

I carried your quilt from Helmand Province Afghanistan all the way back here to my home where I am sitting next to my wife and our 11 month old son with the quilt around us. I just wanted to say thank you for your quilt. It really helped me through a rough time.

God Bless the Passionate Stitchers and the Sacred Heart Parish.

Very Respectfully,

Sergeant Ryan C Schatz
United States Marine Corps

Dear Jan,
A big “thank you” to you and all your friends who have placed so much time, effort and love into each and every quilt your group has sent to our CASF!
Approximately 2 weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being a nurse to a Marine who earned his 3rd Purple Heart; unbeknownst to me when I assigned him to a bed with your Purple Heart quilt on it!
I have attached a picture of two Marines who were quite thankful of their new quilts.
Very respectfully,
Michelle Muessig, Capt, USAF, NC

Hi again, Jan!
Today I met a ‘Lucky Charm’. He is a Navy Corpsman and his name is HM3 Luan Dam. He received a gunshot wound to his face and it missed his teeth, his artery and his spine! We rubbed his arm for good luck! He was happy to receive a quilt made by you and your friendsJ Attached is his picture.
v/r,
Capt Muchelle
